Sajima Hachiman Shrine is the only shrine located in Sajima. In the past, the Hachiman Shrine that was in the Motomiyama area of the Eji district was relocated to the Honura area, and eventually moved to its current location. At that time, it was part of the grounds of Itsukushima Shrine, but over time, the Hachiman Shrine became the focal point. The Itsukushima Shrine was then established to the left of the main hall of the Hachiman Shrine, which was reconstructed in the 4th year of the Keicho era (1599). In the ceiling of the worship hall, there is a uniquely Japanese reverse compass where the directions of East (卯) and West (酉) are inscribed backward.
