Sushi restaurant • 3-chōme-5-1 Shimomeguro, Meguro City, Tokyo 153-0064, Japan
Just a 10-minute walk from Meguro Station on the Yamanote Line, you'll find "Sushi-ya Sato" in a quiet residential neighborhood. The inconspicuous sign and the entrance on the second floor make it feel like a hidden gem. However, once you step inside, you will be immersed in the traditional charm of Edomae sushi.
The L-shaped counter is surrounded by a showcase of an array of luxurious sushi. The wide variety of ingredients will capture your attention. The master and his son warmly welcome you, adding to the sense of calm and reassurance in the peaceful atmosphere.
There are no "recommended" menus here. Instead, you can have the luxurious experience of communicating your preferences for each piece and having the master craft it for you. The bite-sized shari rice perfectly complements the premium quality ingredients, encapsulating the seasonal flavors in each mouthful. Each offering, whether it's the exquisite Anago or the Kawahagi with liver and soy sauce, is truly exceptional.
A meal for two can easily cost 20,000 yen, placing it in the higher price range. However, the dedication to quality ingredients, the generous portion of the sushi, and the meticulous craftsmanship make it more than worth the price. It's a place that you'll want to frequent, a renowned gem in the neighborhood.
"It seems that photography inside the restaurant is prohibited, so I apologize that the only photos I have were taken before I was aware of that." - (Yoji Takahisa)
I casually tried to take a photo, but the owner promptly told me, "No photography allowed," and I was taken aback (laughs). Certainly, as the space retains its traditional atmosphere, I'll refrain from capturing the rich ambiance to respect it.
