Katsuyama Kofun is a precious heritage from the early Kofun period, standing in a residential area of Ota, Sakurai City. While exuding a nostalgic atmosphere, its size and shape tell the authority of the rulers at that time.
Katsuyama Kofun is a large keyhole-shaped tomb with a total length of 115m. The front part faces east, and the figure covered with the grove of the rear circular part gives a solemn feeling. Although the front part has been leveled, the former keyhole-shaped round shape can be glimpsed from the southeast side.
The shallow surrounding moat in the shape of a horseshoe remains, allowing half of the outer circumference of the tomb to be traversed. Although the luxurious burial facilities have not been excavated, the prestige of the powerful figures can be inferred from the landscape of the tomb adorned with a moat.
