Akameguchi Station is a small unmanned station nestled in the rural landscape of Nabari City. Yet, stepping into this area, a world of rich nature and romantic history awaits.
A 10-minute walk from Akameguchi Station will take you to the Akame 48 Waterfalls, representing Mie Prefecture. As the name suggests, this scenic spot is formed on the rocky terrain of the headwaters of the Nagara River, with 48 waterfalls cascading in succession. You can feel as if you have entered a different world while being showered by the spray of waterfalls flowing down the deep gorge veiled in trees.
About 15 minutes' walk from the Akame 48 Waterfalls, you will find the habitat of the Japanese giant salamander, 'Sobadani.' The sight of this rare creature quietly swimming among the rocks scattered in the ponds is truly a scene from the primeval world. There are also places for river play, making it enjoyable for families with children.
