Standing on the way up the mountain, Gohama Shelter of Mt. Chokai Omononushi Shrine (Gohama Shelter) is a place for climbers to rest, as well as a sacred space.
Beyond the rugged mountain ridge lies the expanse of Lake Chokai's blue waters and the majestic form of Mt. Chokai. From the windows of Gohama Shelter, one can overlook this magnificent view. The air is clear, and at times the sight of the ridgelines floating in a sea of clouds can be seen. It is a place where one is overwhelmed by the natural beauty.
At first glance, Gohama Shelter looks like an ordinary mountain shelter. However, it is actually the lodging place of the Omononushi Shrine, which worships Mt. Chokai as its object of worship. The historic building exudes the ambience of a sanctuary, and in the restaurant serving ascetic cuisine, one is surrounded by a sacred atmosphere.
Located on the middle slope, Gohama Shelter is the midpoint of the Mt. Chokai climb. Seasoned climbers may tell you, "If you want to personally inscribe the summit's goshuin, then let's climb the remaining half!"
A valuable place where one can experience the grandeur of Mt. Chokai's nature and its sacred atmosphere, Gohama Shelter of Mt. Chokai Omononushi Shrine. It is a precious part of the climbing journey.
