Welcome to the mysterious Takihime Waterfall nestled in the depths of the Izumo mountains. This small waterfall, long revered by the local people, is enveloped in a silence that seems to have frozen time.
During the Taisho era, it is said that a woman in her 30s named Sayo Tanaka, who lived nearby, suddenly exhibited the qualities of a divine child. In accordance with the divine message from Munakata Taisha, a split-off spirit was enshrined in this land, and the sacred space is still being passed down to this day. Although there was only one divine child in that generation, the rock face above the waterfall appears to resemble the face of a woman or a fox, making it truly a power spot.
The Takihime Waterfall, though small, holds a majestic presence and shines amidst the surrounding greenery, creating a space of tranquil beauty. A stroll while being showered in the spray of water will provide a moment of peace away from the daily hustle and bustle.
While it is possible to reach the waterfall by car, caution is needed when proceeding to Tachikue Gorge, as Route 162 will become a dead end. There may also be pesticide spraying at times, so tourists should be careful not to drink the waterfall water.
Takihime Waterfall holds a mystery beyond its appearance. You too can visit this hidden gem of Izumo and experience the wondrous space for yourself.
