About a 10-minute walk north from Omiwa Shrine, walking along the quiet countryside path, you will suddenly come across the hidden cafe 'Hanamori'. It is a charming Japanese-style building that blends into the nature-rich environment.
Inside the cafe, there are about 6 counter seats, but the charm of Hanamori lies in its garden terrace. With three round tables surrounded by large trees, you can enjoy dining amidst nature. Sometimes insects and nuts may fall, but it is all part of the special space where you can feel the seasons with all senses.
The signature dish of Hanamori is the 'Hanamori Vegetable Set with Omiwa Shrine somen'. You can enjoy simmered fresh local vegetables and crispy deep-fried tempura. Moreover, Omiwa Shrine’s somen, which is offered with seven types of condiments and ingredients, is a masterpiece. Thin, not too soft, and perfectly matching with other ingredients, its taste is praiseworthy.
In the hot season, Hanamori's special shaved ice is recommended. You can enjoy unique flavors such as brown sugar syrup with soybean flour, roasted figs, and Earl Grey. The performance of sprinkling soybean flour in front of you also adds extra value to the dining experience.
It is recommended to use the Omiwa Shrine parking lot and visit by walking from there along the Yamabe Path. While walking along the Yamabe Path, you can enjoy a stroll feeling the history and nature of Nara. However, in summer, you might perspire a bit, so please visit in comfortable walking attire.
Hanamori is a special place where the charms of Nara's nature, culture, and food are condensed. In a quiet environment, you can enjoy carefully prepared dishes and have a wonderful experience that refreshes both body and mind. It is also an ideal hidden gem in Nara for a visit by yourself, with friends, or family.
