Rinsho Temple is a Jodo sect temple located in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture. While its establishment is said to date back to the Heian period, it is known for its deep connection to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the leader of the Edo shogunate. Stepping into the precincts, you can feel its historical presence.
The main hall houses wooden statues reportedly dedicated by Lord Ieyasu when he was young, as well as cloud boards (cultural assets) said to have been carried by Lord Ieyasu during the siege of Ueno Castle in Mikawa. These are also treasured as temple artifacts.
In the precincts, you can find the grave of Matsudaira Tadayoshi (Ieyasu's fourth son), as well as the ancestral graves of the Hosokawa family and Sakakibara Yasumasa, allowing you to reflect on history. Furthermore, the view of the rows of pine trees from the main gate is magnificent, providing a glimpse of the venerable scenery.
It is convenient to access by car, and there is ample parking. Nearby, you can enjoy historical exploration at attractions such as the birthplace of the Sakakibara family, the ruins of Ueno Castle, and the Kamocastle site. While near the Toyota Junction, it is recommended to use navigation to find your way.
After passing through the temple town, you will find cafes and soba noodle shops, making it a perfect place for a break after visiting the shrine.
