I just passed through so did not have strong impression. I felt quiet and calming. Here is very close from water level at city area, so convenience for person who don't like to walk so long or very limited time traveler.

I’ve been doing most of the temples of onomichi and it was one of my favorite 🙂
Of the course the view is not as good as the ones higher in the hill (senkoji) but for such a short walk it’s a very rewarding atmosphere and view !

I arrived at it by going down a maze of alleys from Senkoji Temple.
Next door to the west is Kibitsu Shrine, which is the centerpiece of Onomichi City's unique Betcher Festival.
Hodo-ji Temple is a Jodo sect (Honen Shonin). The principal image is Amida Nyorai.
Mr. Honen and Mr. Shinran are ``Namu Amida Butsu'' of the original prayer of other powers, so when we prayed, we chanted ``Namu Amida Butsu'' even though we were from other sects, and then prayed for the fulfillment of our overflowing desires.
On the southwest side of the precincts, there is a teahouse called Sakura Cafe, which is a repurposed private house with a slightly higher price and a nice view.
I have type 1 diabetes, so I didn't look for it because it would be painful not to be able to eat.
There also seems to be a shaved ice and frozen shop on the grounds called ``Sweet Workshop Mori wo Iru Neko''.
When you exit the temple gate, there are stone stairs heading south, leading to National Route 2 and the Onomichi shopping district.
To the east, or rather, on the east side of the precincts, there is also the Onomichi Maneki Neko Kobo, and it is interesting that you cannot tell where the road is and which is within the precincts. This whole place is like a tourist mall.
Be careful!
If you don't keep everything other than the offering money safe, there is a risk of going over your travel budget.

After walking down the narrow slope and passing through the mountain gate, we arrived at the temple. After praying, I decided to take a rest. If you look around you, you will see a shrine, and next to the shrine grounds there is a shop that sells beckoning cats, where you can color them to your liking. There is also a cafe nearby.
The goshuin stamp is not handwritten, but is written and costs ¥300. It was placed on the left side of the main hall.
By the way, the view of the city from the temple grounds was also nice.
Autumn leaves are in season. I think it's also good when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
